J Stone Cards was founded by the late Jane Stone, an internationally known artist and writer who had been painting since 1962.

She painted murals on both interior/exterior of buildings in Oregon and Minnesota, and had several gallery shows in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She moved to Oregon in 1972 and worked exclusively in watercolor until 1985 when she founded her greeting card/poster company. J.Stone Cards has produced and distributed over 17 million individually painted watercolor cards with the help of a small staff of young apprentices who are able to earn a living with a paintbrush in their hands. J. Stone cards has been represented in every major art museum nationwide, including the Smithsonian and  Metropolitan Museum as well as many of the finest retail stores, catalogues and botanical gardens from coast to coast. 

Jane was quoted as saying, "I love to think of my cards as tiny paintings and still believe these cards represent some of the finest handpainted greetings in the marketplace. It has been an extraordinary privilege to combine both my love of art and writing, through the visual mediums of greetings cards and posters."
